What is KYBELLA?

If you have a "double chin," or want to create a thinner profile, KYBELLA may be a good option for you. This injectable is used to correct stubborn areas of fat in the chin where exercise, diet, and weight loss haven't helped. This 15-minute procedure comprises a number of small injections in your upper neck that will target and destroy unwanted fat. After your treatment, you can go back to your normal daily routine. You likely will notice some swelling, bruising, and numbness below your chin, but this shouldn't last more than a few days. While you will likely see improvements in just one treatment, many Body Bar MD patients seek additional treatments to protect and prolong their results. Contact our Carmel or Terre Haute, IN practice to learn more.

What to Expect During Your Kybella Session

KYBELLA is completed during an appointment in one of our treatment rooms. Dr. Christy will often apply a numbing gel to the injected area, if preferred, after the skin has been cleansed. The injection lasts about 15 minutes, which includes a few small injections targeting the submental area. Some patients may require one treatment to reach their desired look while others may require a few treatments spaced 3 – 4 weeks between each appointment at Body Bar MD.

KYBELLA doesn't require anesthesia so you are able to leave our office when you feel comfortable to return to your usual routine. You may notice temporary bruising, swelling, or numbness beneath your chin, but this shouldn't last more than a few days. Contact Body Bar MD immediately if you are noticing any unusual symptoms, like facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, or if your smile is uneven. While the fat cells that are eliminated do not return, the remaining cells can get larger so you need to keep a stable weight after your KYBELLA injections to keep new pockets of fat from forming. Ideal results after this treatment leave your neck looking slimmer and tighter, and your profile will be better defined.

KYBELLA FAQ

How much does KYBELLA cost?
KYBELLA treatment costs will depend on how many appointments you need. During your consultation, a customized plan will be created to match your budget and goals. A team member will also discuss payment options with you during your first appointment.

How does KYBELLA work?
Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in KYBELLA, works to break down fat cells in the upper neck. After they are eliminated, these cells will not regenerate. This is why more injections should not be necessary once you have reached your desired outcome.

Can KYBELLA be used to treat other areas of the body?
Currently, KYBELLA can only be used to treat the upper neck. KYBELLA has been proven to effectively minimize the appearance of a double chin. KYBELLA isn't approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for use on any other areas of the body.

Am I eligible for a KYBELLA treatment?
There are a few factors that could make you ineligible to receive a KYBELLA treatment. You must be at least 18 years old, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and cannot have any infection at the treatment site. Prior to receiving treatment, you should share your medical history and health concerns with your injector so they can decide if you can safely receive the treatment.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
During your consultation, a personalized injection plan will be developed to meet your goals. Typically, patients get between 2 – 4 KYBELLA treatments before achieving their goals. KYBELLA injections must also be made around one month apart. You should not receive any more than six treatments.
