The Alma Harmony XL Pro is a versatile device we use to accomplish a range of services at Body Bar MD. Intense pulsed light sessions take only 20 to 30 minutes, including a pre-treatment skin wash-and-dry. Since the light is so powerful, we will give you goggles to wear throughout the process so that your eyes stay protected.

The treatment itself involves us passing a handheld wand directly over your skin. This wand emits the intense pulses of light. We do all we can to make the experience as comfortable as possible—and remember that intense pulsed light treatments are quick, so any discomfort due to the powerful beams is brief.

Expect some slight swelling, redness, and tenderness in the treated area after an IPL session, but don’t let any of that stop you from getting back to your regular activities as soon as you’d like. We will recommend some post-treatment care, including anti-inflammatories and cosmetics to help with your complexion—though visible side effects tend to fade in a matter of hours.

Spots tend to begin flaking away in about two to five days. As much as you may be tempted, don’t pick at anything! Redness takes a bit more time to fade as the vessels collapse and break down. Texture improvements are also gradual since the collagen levels build up over time.

Throughout all of this, be sure to protect your treated skin from sun exposure. Year-round sun-safe habits are always a good idea, but guarding against exposure is especially important after an intense pulsed light treatment.

Many patients find the most success after a series of treatments. We may recommend four to six sessions spaced a month apart in order to enjoy ideal results.
