Is Shockwave Therapy Right for Me?
Shockwave therapy is ideal for many forms of aching and pain, whether due to injury, genetics, or any other cause. This technology is incredibly versatile and can be used on virtually anyone. We find it particularly helpful in aiding the following conditions:
- Insertion tendinopathy
- Tendon problems
- Chronic inflammation
- Hypertonic muscle systems
- Myofascial syndromes
How is Shockwave Therapy Performed?
To begin the procedure, we'll lie you down comfortably before moving the Zimmer device over the targeted area of the body. Using what is known as a softshot shockwave, we are able to transmit energy into the body, which stimulates its natural healing process. These radial shockwaves essentially create new blood vessels and convince the body to send beneficial nutrients to the affected area. Within just minutes of having these shockwaves transmitted into the body, the treatment will end, and the patient will be free to return home.
What Results Can I Expect from Shockwave Therapy?
As the procedure itself is completely noninvasive, there is no downtime, recovery, or scarring associated with shockwave therapy. This makes it much different than many other orthopedic alternatives, which often involve surgery. Some patients may notice results within only a few days though we find it usually takes at least three weeks before significant results can be felt. Afterward, we'll discuss with you how often you should come in and how many total sessions you'll need in order to completely solve your problems.
